Bayley III Developmental Screening Scale

It is a scale used to follow the development of infants and young children between 1-42 months. It is not an intelligence test. It includes five areas of development: intellectual, receptive language, expressive language, fine motor and gross motor. There is also a social adaptive scale used to monitor social development. Each part of the scale can be used individually, or it can be evaluated as a whole and each developmental area can be compared. It facilitates the evaluation, follow-up, correct guidance and coordinated work of infants and young children according to their age.

Individual Psychotherapy and Family Therapy

Psychotherapy support is provided to families of infants and children with developmental delays or who are being followed up due to risk factors. Psychotherapy support is required for several reasons:

  • The family is a system and when each individual is added to this system, the relationality in the family changes. While the relationship between two people is three (you, me and our relationship), the number of relationships doubles when a baby is born. This is a new situation.
  • If there is a problem in one of the parts of the system (e.g. intensive care process, developmental risk factors, etc.), the system is affected. If the level of anxiety in the system is high, this should be reduced. It is useful to look at family members as a whole or individually.
  • Studies show that the depression levels/scores of mothers are higher than those of men. This result also explains why mothers apply to psychotherapy individually.
  • Follow-up of individuals with special needs should be long-term. Psychological problems are often overlooked, which leads to adaptation problems, unhappiness and depression. Individuals with special needs need more psychological support in youth and adulthood.
  • Sleep disorders (sleeping too little or too much, waking up unrested), appetite disorders (sudden weight gain, weight loss), sexual problems indicate that physical harmony is impaired. Each individual should consider psychotherapy support when they have problems in one or more of these situations.
